The (Outrigger) Canoe Race 2019

RACE ENTRY AND LUAU TICKETS

The event sees competitors racing from Putney Embankment to Westminster and back. After the race on Saturday competitors and spectators can enjoy a Hawaiian Luau and prize giving.
 

  • Tshirt and Luau is included in the race fee. **ALL competitors are directly entered into a raffle for an oZone OC1** Additional raffle tickets can be purchased on the day.
  • If you are a solo paddler and need a team please get in touch before paying your race fee (events@ocuk.org)
  • If you wish to rent an OC6 please get in touch (events@ocuk.org)
  • Race fees and luau tickets need to be paid for online by Wednesday June 12.

SATURDAY JUNE 15

  • OC6. 18 km. Putney Embankment to Lambeth Bridge to Hammersmith turn buoy and back to Putney.
  • Registration opens at 10 am. Race fees and luau tickets need to be paid online by Wednesday June 12.
  • Race Briefing: 10.45 am
  • Boat Blessing: 11 am
  • Race Start: 11.30 am**Race times are subject to change**
  • Luau and prize giving and OC1 raffle: 3.30 - 9 pm

RULES OVERVIEW

 

Each competitor is required to take responsibility for their own safety and sign off that they know that:

  • Each competitor is required to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid/PFD
  • Each OC6 is required to have:
    • -a mobile phone or VHF radio
    • -a spare paddle
    • -two bailers
  • All competitors are responsible for managing their own safety and competitors are expected to be proactive about safety. Participants must be capable of self-rescue and crews should have the capacity to deal with safety issues themselves. Safety cover is offered for the race but participants need to understand that the time it takes a safety boat to reach competitors cannot be guaranteed. By participating in the race participants agree that they understand that safety cover cannot be guaranteed.
  • Dangerous steering will not be tolerated, and competitors will be disqualified
  • Any crew jumping the start will accrue a 10-minute time penalty
  • At turn buoys:
    • -all turns are ama side
    • -if there any boats with any overlap, the outside boat must give right of way to the inside boat
  • By participating in the race competitors agree that:
    • -they understand the inherent risks of participating in the sport of outrigger canoeing
    • -are fit enough and capable of participating in an outrigger canoe race
    • -they will not take any action which will cause harm to themselves or any other competitor or spectator
    • -they are responsible for managing their own safety and competitors are expected to be proactive about safety. EVENT ENTRIES

 

  • If you are completing race entry for a team, you will need to know each person's email address, mailing address, date of birth, and mobile telephone number. Registration (waivers, etc.) will be signed by each team member on the day.
  • If you are racing you do not need to purchase a luau ticket as it is included in the race fee.
  • All competitors will need to have active GBOCA memberships. If your team members are not GBOCA members, please choose GBOCA non-member tickets.
